Between Stillness and Ascent:Visual Artwork
A sage dwells in the gap where space and time unfold. A contemporary graphic study reimagining rest through deconstructed Korean landscape art.
Task
Planned and produced a graphic visual for the exhibition’s theme. Extracted elements of traditional landscape painting and visualized a transcendent figure through disrupted perspective and spatial deconstruction.
This visual work, created for a special exhibition at the National Folk Museum of Korea, centers around the concept of rest—not as absence, but as a transitional state. Inspired by Jeong Seon’s Geumgangjeondo, we deconstructed elements of traditional Korean landscape art and reinterpreted them through a contemporary graphic lens.
The figure depicted may resemble an ordinary person who has left behind the mundane world, but their exaggerated, perspective-defying form hints at something beyond—a modern representation of the sinseon, the sage-like transcendents of Korean myth. Rather than illustration, the work employs abstracted graphic forms to explore the quiet rupture between reality and elevation—where stillness is not silence, but presence.
Through visual dislocation, re-layered perspective, and spatial interruption, this project reflects csucsa studio’s unique approach to translating cultural narratives into present-day graphic language.
국립민속박물관의 특별 전시를 위해 제작된 이 그래픽 작업은 ‘쉼’이라는 개념을 중심에 두고 있다. 여기서 말하는 쉼은 부재가 아니라, 일상과 초월 사이의 전이 상태로 해석된다.
정선의 ‘금강전도’에서 영감을 받아, 전통 한국 산수화의 요소를 현대적인 그래픽 언어로 재구성하였다. 화면 속 인물은 세속을 벗어난 보통 사람처럼 보일 수 있지만, 왜곡된 시점과 비현실적인 형태는 전통 속 신선의 형상을 암시한다. 이 인물은 단순한 묘사가 아닌, 공간과 시간의 균열 속에서 등장하는 초월적 존재로 표현되었다.
이 프로젝트는 시점의 재구성, 레이어의 충돌, 공간의 분할을 통해 정적인 감각을 시각적으로 해체하고 다시 배치하는 실험이다. 현실과 상상의 경계에서 나타나는 ‘쉼’이라는 개념을 시각적으로 탐색하며, CSUSCA 스튜디오만의 방식으로 전통적 내러티브를 현대적 그래픽 언어로 번역한 결과물이다.
