Branded Utility-Merchandise Project

This merchandise design & production project was a collaboration with INTHEMASS, aiming to encapsulate the brand’s philosophy and everyday rituals into tangible objects.

INTHEMASS is a high-end showroom brand developed from MASS COFFEE, launched in 2013. It brings together years of experimentation, store operations, and customer relationships to deliver exceptional coffee and service. Our goal was to reflect their commitment to longevity and innovation through carefully designed merchandise.

By closely observing the brand and engaging in deep conversations about its philosophy, we arrived at a collection of minimal yet meaningful objects that seamlessly integrate into their daily workflow.

Task

Developed a merchandise concept that embodies minimalism and functionality while resonating with the brand’s identity. Delivered a final merchandise set that supports both practical use and brand storytelling within INTHEMASS’s space.

01. Information - Merchandise

Merchandise Project : First Collection
Planned as a three-phase project, the first collection features a pencil, pen, clip, and masking tape.

Pencil & Pen
At INTHEMASS, staff meticulously document and adjust coffee roasting profiles and delivery records. Inspired by this practice, we designed a wooden pencil and a vibrant orange pen—both practical tools that reflect the brand’s daily operations.

Clip
Used to seal coffee bags and organize paperwork, the clip is a simple yet functional addition that serves both staff and customers who purchase whole beans.

Masking Tape
This product has an unexpected origin. Just before the store opening, a last-minute oversight left the paper coffee cups unbranded. In response, we quickly printed the INTHEMASS logo on masking tape and applied it to the cups. The positive customer reaction led us to produce it as an official merchandise item.

굿즈 프로젝트 : 1차 컬렉션

굿즈 프로젝트는 총 3회에 걸쳐 진행될 예정이며, 첫 번째 컬렉션은 연필, 볼펜, 집게, 마스킹 테이프로 구성 하였다.

연필 & 볼펜
인더매스의 스태프들은 원두 로스팅과 납품 과정에서 수많은 기록과 수정을 거친다. 이러한 업무적 특성을 반영하여, 목공 연필과 인더매스의 시그니처 컬러인 주황색 볼펜을 디자인하였다.

집게
원두 봉투를 쉽게 밀봉하고, 기록지를 정리하는 실용적인 도구로 활용할 수 있도록 집게를 추가하였다. 매장뿐만 아니라 원두를 구매하는 고객들에게도 유용한 아이템이 될 것이라 생각했다.

마스킹 테이프
이 굿즈는 예상치 못한 계기로 탄생했다. 매장 오픈을 앞두고 커피잔 인쇄를 놓친 상황에서, 급히 브랜드 로고를 마스킹 테이프에 프린트하여 컵에 부착하였는데, 예상외로 고객 반응이 좋았다. 이 해프닝이 계기가 되어 정식 굿즈로 제작하게 되었다.

02.Infomation - Package

The pencil packaging comes in single and three-piece sets. The design references the INTHEMASS symbol and applies the brand’s signature color to reinforce its identity.
A rectangular cutout at the bottom reveals the logo on the pencil inside, integrating the product into the overall design.
The goal was to create a package that is simple in form but clearly connected to the brand’s visual and conceptual language.

패키지는 연필 1개입 / 3개입 세트로 구성되며, 인더매스의 아이덴티티를 시각적으로 전달하는 데 집중했다.
인더매스의 심볼 형태를 차용한 레이아웃과 키 컬러를 활용하여 브랜드의 정체성을 반영했으며,
하단에 배치한 사각 타공 디테일을 통해 내부 연필에 새겨진 로고가 자연스럽게 드러나도록 디자인하고.
단순한 패키지를 넘어, 제품 자체가 브랜드의 일부로 보이도록 연출한 구성이다.

03.Infomation - Work Order

The merchandise was created with a clear focus on embedding the brand’s identity and key details, as outlined in the design guidelines.

작업지시서에 보는 것과 같이 굿즈를 제작함에 있어 브랜드의 정체성과 정보를 함께 담아내려 하였다.
